Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening accident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two safety personnel darted across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event happened on the third rotation when safety workers were spotted on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to change his broken nose section

Competitor's Live Reaction

Shortly afterward, Racing Bulls driver Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you just see that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was observing"

"I came out on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two individuals dashing across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Evidently there's been a communication breakdown somehow but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a active circuit track officials can be permitted to just dash across the track in that manner. I have no idea why, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is currently investigating the events

"Following a turn one incident, track officials was informed that wreckage remained on the track at the critical section of that bend" commented the FIA

"In the third rotation, track officials were notified and placed on standby to access the circuit and remove the wreckage once the entire field had cleared the area"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had made a pit stop, the instructions to dispatch personnel were canceled and a safety warning flag was displayed in that zone"

"We are still investigating what happened subsequent to that time"
