Heroic Train Staff Member Suffers Critical Injuries During Multiple Knife Incident on High-Speed Train

A brave train staff member who intervened to save passengers during a multiple knife attack on a express train has sustained life-threatening wounds, police confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Incident

CCTV footage allegedly shows the employee trying to halt the assailant as the train traveled between a city and another station in the county. Witnesses recounted a frightening 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied passengers running through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, remains in custody for questioning. Police announced a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Crisis Reaction and Aftermath

The event on the weekend led to 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have now been released from medical care.

A witness filmed the individual waving a large knife and being subdued with a Taser as he confronted police on the platform. He was allegedly heard yelling, "End my life, end my life."

“This awful event has created broad consequences. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – especially the brave employee of train personnel whose family are being assisted by trained officers,” stated a senior police officer.

Union Reaction and Appeals for Measures

Rail unions were quick to commend staff and demand more action. One union official said he would be “requesting urgent discussions with authorities, rail employers and law enforcement to ensure that we have the strongest possible assistance, resources and effective procedures in place”.

Another union leader encouraged the train operator and authorities “to move quickly to examine security, to help the affected workers, and to ensure nothing like this happens again”.

Driver Commended for Rapid Action

The train driver who stopped the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been praised by association representatives for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“The driver did not stop the service in the center of two stations where it’s clearly difficult for the first responders to reach, but he continued traveling until he got to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much waiting,” explained a union official.

Further Information

Authorities stated they received the first distress calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness described initially wondering if the event was a Halloween joke, but soon understood from individuals' faces that it was serious.

Police have confirmed there is nothing to indicate the event was a terror-related attack and have asked the public to come forward with any further details.

Train operations on the impacted route are expected to have disruption until Monday, with passengers advised to postpone their journeys where possible.

Individuals with details that could assist the investigation are encouraged to contact authorities by sending a message a designated number with a reference code.
