Donald Trump and Japanese Recently Appointed Prime Minister Share Praise and Commit to Reinforce ‘Remarkable’ Relationship

During a latest trip to Japan's capital, former American leader Donald Trump together with the Japanese new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi exchanged friendly praise and vowed to strengthen the currently robust two-way relations.

Key Points from the Meeting

Trump praised Prime Minister Takaichi as a ‘exceptional’ leader and applauded her on becoming the nation's inaugural female prime minister. During their talks at Tokyo's Akasaka Palace, the former president voiced optimism that she would prove to be one of the ‘outstanding leaders’ of the country.

The prime minister, who is a protégée of former Prime Minister Abe, applauded Trump's initiatives to address global disputes and reportedly vowed to put forward Trump for the prestigious award.

Economic and Security Deals

Both nations revealed a series of joint projects in areas such as power, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals. Japan-based companies are considering funding of up to $400 billion in the US.

Additionally, Japan had previously committed $550bn in strategic US investments, financing, and guarantees as part of an arrangement to obtain relief from the former president's tariffs.

Such moves are viewed as potentially reducing any future requests from the US side for Japan to boost its defense spending. The prime minister addressed this by committing to accelerate plans to raise defense spending to two percent of gross domestic product.

This meeting underscores the ongoing significance of the American-Japanese partnership and paves the way for additional cooperation on trade, security, and foreign policy areas.
